Eurofins Carbon Footprint Strategy

Eurofins, a global company, is an Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) enabler and in line with our mission of ‘Testing for Life’, we are prioritising our impact on the environment.  All Eurofins businesses started capturing carbon emissions data in 2019 and appointed CO2 champions to collect the data.

The world of logistics is changing , adding electric vehicles and possibly drones in the near future.  We have added electric vehicles to our fleet and are looking to expand our electric footprint over the coming years. The Irish Government plan to have high-powered chargers every 60km on motorways and primary/secondary roads, including rural and remote areas, very soon.

With aviation being the largest source of greenhouse gases in sample transport, we chose DHL as our primary international partner, because of their innovative technologies to improve flight operations and their electrification of ground handling and certain vehicles.

Following are highlights of the Cardon Reduction progress we have made:

  • purchased hybrid cars for our salespeople who travel long distances and fully electric cars for those based within a city, who travel short distances
  • installed smart metres and electric charge points for our electric vehicles at our 3 office locations in Dublin
  • introduced some electric vans for local deliveries in Dublin and are transitioning from diesel to electric vehicles
  • several of our fleet are powered by HVO fuel
  • trained our drivers in fuel-efficient driving techniques, with vehicle-specific methodologies to optimize energy consumption
  • using AdBlue in all diesel vehicles to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions
  • regularly analyse and optimize delivery routes to minimize travel distances and reduce emissions
  • ensure all vehicles are maintained, undergoing an annual CVRT (Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Test), which includes a Smoke Test to ensure emissions are within acceptable limits
